Girl's Night Out, Hermosa Beach

It's been a while since Megan and I went out and cut loose. So we decided to have a long overdue girl's night out. We started out slow, with dinner at Hennesey's with Ashley. Ashley's a baby of taste and very particular about her beer, looks like she's going for the black and tan. (She's actually reaching for her Cherrios on the table. The optical illusion makes it look like she's reaching for the beer. Don't send child services after us.) After dinner we took Ashley home to her Daddy and went out for real. Megan lives in walking distance of all the bars on Pier Ave, makes the partying very convenient. We started at Shark's Cove and weren't there for more than 10 minutes before we were challenged to some Foosball. We beat 3 different teams of guys, back to back to back. I think they were a little surprised. Hey, we won fair and square.

Then we wandered over to Fishak's and noticed that they have a separate room with a DJ. We talked the bouncer into letting us in without paying the cover charge, its like we were still in our 20's. Yeah, we were feeling fly. Megan's mission for the night was to get every DJ to play her favorite song, don't know the title, I think its by Flo Rida. Isn't Megan a knockout? Fishak's is pretty lo-budge, but that's how we roll. OK, that's how I roll, but whatever. So then we mosied on over to The Underground. They have a back room with a DJ spinning. It was pretty dead when we got there. No one was on the dance floor. Megan got the DJ to play her song if we promised to warm up the dance floor.I have to say, after we were done on the dance floor, it was packed. From the windows to the wall. Our work was done here. So we walked across the street and down the alley and on the strand to The Poop Deck. This is one of our all time favorite bars in Hermosa Beach. Its super divey, lo-budge, never crowded, has an outside patio, cheap beer, same bartenders (one looks a lot like Dave Grohl), and best of all, Foosball. I think I've spent more quarters on Foosball than on actually buying beer.

Sadly, The Poop Deck and it's neighbor The Mermaid are up for sale for $27 million dollars. You won't find classic neighborhood dives like this on prime beach property anymore. When this one is gone, it will be the end of an era. Where else is there a bar with two women's bathroom stalls like this:
Its got the re-usable paper towel that you rotate after each use, and a sink in the corner of each of the two stalls. Gross and awesome. I have many fuzzy missing memories of these stalls. I've been going to The Poop Deck for almost 10 years. sheesh. By this time we were feeling pretty good. We were challenged to Foosball and won again. All guys assume that girls can't play Foosball?? Or they think they'll go easy on us and be flirty and let us win. It doesn't take long before they realized we mean business and school their ass. We really should take advantage of it and start hustling for money. But for now, playing for beers (that we barely finish) and free fooz is good enough.

We are but simple ladies.
