My First Gelato
I had many a scoop of gelato this summer in Italy. But my first scoop of gelato, that I know of, was in Pasadena about 11 years ago. This little shop, the name of which I don't know and always refer to as "the gelato place", has been in Old Town in Miller's Alley since I first moved to Pasadena in 1996.
I haven't been back to this place in years, and just randomly decided to go get a scoop. Except for the addition of a few new flavors, it hasn't changed.
When I walked out I was going to go home, but I saw the wishing trees in the courtyard and had to go check it out. The wishing trees deserve their own post, and so it shall be.

Lucky Boy Hamburgers
I haven't posted anything on Pasadena eateries recently. I eat in Pasadena Monday-Fridays, so that's a lot of food to write about. Usually we get El Pollo Loco, or Boston Market, Chinese food, or In-and-Out burger. Every once in a blue moon we''ll get something new.
Today Dad and Aunty Zizi got everyone burgers and fries from Lucky Boy . I've driven by this place for years and always said I'd stop by someday, but never had. It's right next to the Trader Joe's on Arroyo. I always smell the meaty goodness as I'm loading my groceries into the trunk of my car and think "next time", but had never gone up to the stand and ordered anything.
All in all, it was a tasty burger, similar to In-and-Out, with larger tomatoes and less lettuce. I think I had the 1/2 pounder, so maybe that's why it was larger over all. Good fries. One order is enough for 2 people.

Jenny's almost-surprise birthday
After our art class today, I hurried over to the Scarlet Tea Room in Pasadena for my friend Jenny's surprise birthday. Jenny accidentally found out about the party last week, but she pretended to be surprised.

The Scarlet Tea Room is really lovely. Jenny's mom Debbie hosted the event. We were treated to yummy finger sandwiches, scones, almond champagne, choice of tea, sorbets and delicious desserts.
Here is Jenny in the middle with Debbie (her mom) and Julie on her left and Debbie and Barbara on her right.

Happy Birthday Jenny!
Thank you for a great time, Debbie!
